USA Gymnast Kara Eaker Test Positive For Coronavirus – Kara Eaker, who is an 18-year-old gymnastics alternate in the US women’s gymnastics team has tested positive for covid-19. Officials have confirmed that she was tested positive for covid-19 days before Tokyo Olympics 2021. Al Fong, her coach stated that she was tested positive for covid-19 while she was at a training camp in Japan. Leanne Wong, who also is an alternate in the US women’s gymnastics team has informed that Kara Eaker was vaccinated for covid-19 in May. Both athletes are now placed under quarantine.
Even though the Olympic officials have not released the name of the athlete, they have identified the athlete as an alternate and have specified her age to be between 10 and 19. This athlete was said to have been training for the games in Narita which is 35 east of Tokyo. USA Gymnastics has released a statement saying that the athlete tested positive on Sunday and along with her, the other alternative of the team has also been quarantined.
Mark Eaker, Kara’s father, told sources that he is disappointed because of the news as his daughter’s dreams will not come true. He says he cannot wait to meet her after the quarantine period ends. He said, “I feel bad for her, because like I said, she’s trained most of her life for this. There was hope up to this point, even as an alternate. Now that the results have come back, that hope is gone.” Kara’s mother, Katherine Eaker said she was thankful for the family members that took the medical advice and vaccinated Kara in May. She added, “If there’s something I could tell everybody: Take this seriously,”.
