The Olympics is around the corner and with just 100 days to go, various test events are being conducted in Japan. Similarly, a two-day water polo test event was scheduled to open from Saturday.
But, now, the water polo test event has been canceled because of current travel restrictions across Japan. The water polo officials are unable to enter Japan due to virus restrictions. The official includes time-keepers and record-keepers who were due to arrive in Japan a few days before the event.
The test events are the dress rehearsals for each sport. The water polo event which was scheduled to start on Saturday will now be held in May or June.
Not just the Water polo test event but many other events have also been canceled or postponed. Many reports also claim that FINA has decided to move its Olympics qualifiers from Japan. These events include swimming, diving world cup and artistic swimming events.
On Monday, the Japanese Triathlon Union announced that the triathlon World Cup was canceled due to restrictions. The event was due to be held in Osaka in the month of May. It was not a test event but an Olympic qualifying event where over 130 athletes from 30 nations were supposed to participate.
The 2021 Olympics slated for 23rd July to 8th August were earlier scheduled in 2020. But due to the coronavirus situation worldwide, the event was postponed by a year. This year, according to the organizers, the event will go ahead as planned along with coronavirus restrictions. Let’s hope that we get safe Olympic games as millions of fans from across the globe are waiting for Olympics 2021.
