BCCI President and Former Indian Cricket Captain Sourav Ganguly requested by Indian Olympic Association, IOA to be a goodwill ambassador of team India at Olympics.
Tokyo Summer Olympics 2020 games to be held between July to August, where IOA secretary general Rajeev Mehta has written to Sourav Ganguly stating “The IOA extends the honor to you to be the Goodwill Ambassador of Team India to the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020. We hope you will generously extend your support for Team India. We are expecting participation of about 100-200 athletes across 14-16 sports disciplines in Tokyo 2020. The team is a mix of senior athletes as well as youngsters who are making their debut at the Olympic Games.”

Mehta also added “You are an inspiration for a billion people, especially the youth. As an administrator, you have always nurtured young talent. We are hopeful your association with Team India to be Tokyo 2020 would be a boost for our young athletes and a privilege for the Olympic movement in India”.

He emphasized this edition of the Olympics is an important milestone as it marks the hundred years of participation of the country at the Olympic Games and Ganguly’s inspiration and support will be valuable for the Indian athletes, especially the young participants.
It was at the Rio Olympics Games held in 2016, Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar, Beijing Olympic Gold Medallist Abhinav Bindra, Bollywood actor Salman Khan, and music composer A.R. Rahman were present as a Goodwill Ambassador.
