In a ceremony held in 2018, Tokyo Summer Olympics 2020 organizing committee revealed their official Mascot Name. This year’s Tokyo Summer Olympics 2020 Mascot Names are Miraitowa and Someity. These two names exhibit Japanese Culture, tradition, innovation and the spirit of the Olympic and Paralympics games. Olympics Mascot was chosen in a unique way on the basis of the children’s vote. Over 16,769 Japanese Elementary school students both from locals and abroad participated in the Mascot voting process, and on 28th May 2018, the winning pair was shortlisted as Miraitowa and Someity.
Japanese artist Ryo Taniguchi designed the shortlisted Miraitowa and Someity Mascot.
