The 21-year-old Kerala boy, Murali Sreeshankar qualified for Tokyo Olympics in the long jump event on Tuesday. Murali set a national record in the ongoing Federation Cup. Murali Sreeshankar registered an 8.26m jump in his fifth attempt to improve his national record of 8.2m set in 2018.
In order to qualify for the Olympics in men’s long jump, one has to register a score above 8.22m. His final jump of 8.26m booked Sreeshankar’s ticket to Tokyo.
He began the competition with an 8.02 jump. Later he recorded 8.04, 8.07 and 8.09 before his final leap which torched 8.26m.

His fellow Kerala jumper Muhammed Anees Yahiya who recorded an 8m jump and Karnataka boy S Lokesh (7.60m) took silver and bronze medals respectively.
The Sports Authority of India (SAIMedia) congratulated and announced the official qualification of Sreeshankar for the Olympics via Twitter.
